When to use it

Use this tool to create a detailed actionable plan for the next 6-18 months.

What’s the purpose

The ‘30-60-90 Roadmap’ template helps you move forward with key actions and milestones by plotting your priorities, metrics, support needed, risks and mitigation actions against a near-mid term timeline, ensuring that you can move forward effectively.

How to do it

Give your roadmap a title in the top left corner of the table.
First individually, set a timer and focus on one column at a time, write down your internally-focused actions across the next 6, 12 and 18 months respectively. Use the color code in the top right corner to identify metrics, support, priority and risks.
Then, do the same for your externally-focused milestones.
Second as a team, share your actions, discuss, build on each other. Do not hesitate to use icons to vote on the most important / milestone ones. You can also merge the duplicates or group similar action points together.
Now, you should have a generous filled in roadmap with key directions. It is time to take it away and turn it into an action plan.

Helpful tips

This tool can also be used at any stage in development when specificity and granularity are required to move things forward over the the near-mid term.
Work with a team to achieve a successful roadmap. Gather as many inputs on sticky notes as possible; this will insure a variety of perspective and make sure most departments are represented. Do first, refine later.
Once finished, you might want to take this roadmap away to turn it into an action plan.
